Mobile TV now in Pakistan

Today Telenor has introduced ROK TV in Pakistan making good use of their EDGE service offerings , I once had a discussion with a top executive at Warid and he told me that they are not going to bring EDGE cause there is no use of it in Pakistan guess it only takes the a little initiative to create demand , in early 1990s no in Pakistan wanted to have a cell phone now one quarter of the population is mobile
The channel offering by Telenor includes

Tv One
MTV Pakistan
Indus Vision
Classic Cartoons
G Tv
Al Jazeera
iPlus
ABC News
KTN
Khyber
Al Wasaya
Filmazaia

While the channel selection is good , the cost is very high for an average man

One Time Activation Charges Rs 50 ( USD 0.8 )

Fee per month Rs. 399 + tax ( USD 7.00 + 25 % Tax )

GPRS Charges Rs. 15/MB + tax ( USd 0.25 + 25 % Tax )

so it's going to be very expensive

On the other hand not all mobile sets are compatible with ROK Tv
currently the following are supported

Symbian 60 series 2
Nokia N-Gage Nokia N-Gage QD Nokia 3230 Nokia 3600 Nokia 3620 Nokia 3650

I m sure it will create waves as now we need to educate educate educate people about the services so that long waited data revenue will eventually become a reality..

Can someone tell how much the data rate per second is for this service to run properly? If it's about 60 Kbps then it'll be like half an MB per minute so a guy will get charged about Rs. 9 (incl of tax)per minute. If the data rate is less, then the per min charge will be lower. Anyhow, if someone knows the correct data rate please let us know.

I got the opportunity to try out this new Telenor service. It was horrible. Even in an EDGE cell, the data rate is not enough to assure Mobile TV. With the result after every 2 seconds, you have to wait while it is 'buffering'. It was PAINFUL just trying to watch it for 10 seconds!
